Everything You Need to Know

Questions about our prints, shipping, and the stories behind the art. If you can't find what you're looking for, get in touch - we love a good patai (question).

A Maori-inspired art print is original artwork rooted in Maori culture, identity, whakapapa (genealogy), and the stories of Aotearoa. At Willa Black Prints, each design is created with genuine connection to te ao Maori - the Maori world - rather than decorative imitation.

Our prints are printed to order in New Zealand on premium archival paper or canvas, and are available framed or unframed. They are designed to be meaningful as well as beautiful - art that carries a story into your home.

Awhi Mai translates from te reo Maori as "embrace me" or "come towards me with care." It speaks to the act of drawing someone close - with warmth, with protection, with love.

This print was designed with Women's Refuge in mind - a tribute to the strength of women who seek safety and the people who hold them. It is one of our most gifted pieces, chosen for new homes, new beginnings, and moments that call for something tender and enduring.

Te Kahu refers to Kākahu - the traditional Maori feathered cloak, also know as the Kaka Huruhuru. In te ao Māori, the kākahu is one of the most treasured and sacred garments, woven with immense skill and carrying the mana of those who wear it. It represents identity, protection, and prestige.

The print is a limited edition work and one of Willa Black Print's most recognised pieces. It suits spaces where you want presence - an entrance, a study, or a feature wall that commands attention.

Ko Tēnei Au translates as "This is me" - a declaration of identity, presence, and self. In te ao Maori, knowing who you are and where you come from is fundamental. This phrase is an act of standing in your own story.

The print resonates deeply with people navigating identity - those with Maori whakapapa, mixed heritage, or anyone who has had to claim their place in the world. It makes a powerful personal gift.

The best NZ art gifts carry a story the recipient can hold onto. A print isn't just decoration - it becomes part of their home, their wall, their daily view.

For gifting, we suggest:

  • Choosing a print whose meaning connects to the person or the occasion
  • Adding a frame so the gift is complete and ready to hang
  • Including a gift note - you can add one at checkout
  • Browsing our Best Sellers if you're unsure - these are the prints people return to again and again

If you'd like a personal recommendation, get in touch - we're happy to help you find the right piece.

The studio also collaborates with other New Zealand artists and designers, some of whom contribute specialist expertise from abroad - but all designs are produced in New Zealand and rooted in this place.
