About This Collection

Hand-painted originals
about the natural elements

The Elements Collection is unlike anything else in the Willa Black Prints range. Every artwork begins as an original hand-painted piece — no digital additions, no graphic overlays. Just paint, brushwork and the raw energy of the element being explored.

Each of the five prints in this collection explores an elemental force: Ahi (fire and energy), Hau (wind and breath), Whenua (earth and land), Wai (water). The palette of each work is drawn directly from its element - fire's deep oranges and blacks, water's cool blues, earth's warm ochres and greens.

These prints are designed to be statement pieces. Shown on canvas on a dark feature wall, they command a room in a way that few prints can. Available as floating canvas, glass framed or unframed — on archival fine art materials, ships NZ, Australia and worldwide.

The Five Elements

Ahi

Fire

Energy, transformation and the sacred ahi kā — the home fires that sustain a people's connection to land.

Hau

Wind

The breath of the world — hau is the life force that flows between living things, the spirit of a gift given.

Whenua

Earth

Land, placenta, belonging — whenua holds both the earth beneath our feet and the cord that ties us to it.

Wai

Water

Sacred source of life. In te ao Māori, wai is tapu — rivers, rain and sea are living ancestors deserving of care.

Ahi is the first

Common Questions

The Elements Collection — FAQs

What is The Elements Collection?

The Elements Collection is a series of hand-painted abstract Māori art prints by Willa Black Prints, each exploring an elemental force — Ahi (fire and energy), Hau (wind and breath), Whenua (earth and land), Wai (water). Every artwork is painted by hand with no digital additions.

Are the prints genuinely hand-painted?

Yes. Every piece in The Elements Collection begins as an original hand-painted artwork with no digital additions to the painting itself. The brushwork and texture you see in the print is exactly what was on canvas. This is what distinguishes The Elements Collection from the rest of the Willa Black range.

What does Ahi mean and what does the artwork show?

Ahi is the Māori word for fire. In te ao Māori, fire carries deep significance — energy, warmth, transformation, and the sacred ahi kā (home fires) that sustain a community's connection to land and ancestors. The Ahi artwork explores fire and energy through bold koru spiral forms painted in deep orange, red and black — the raw visual language of flame.

Which finish works best for these prints?

Floating canvas is the recommended finish for The Elements Collection. The brushwork and painterly texture of these originals come through most powerfully on canvas — especially on a dark feature wall as shown. Glass framed and unframed options are also available. See all finish options.

Are these suitable for commercial spaces?

Yes — and they were designed with bold commercial spaces in mind. Hotels, restaurants, offices and hospitality venues with strong interior design sensibilities are the natural home for these prints. Do The Elements Collection prints ship to Australia?

Yes. All Willa Black Prints ship within Australia, with Australian orders printed and dispatched locally. Prints dispatched in 1-2 business days, framed prints in 5-9 business days. See shipping details.
